KUALA LUMPUR – Harimau Malaya have just unveiled their new jerseys from Nike for the 2022-2024 season, with the theme being “Demi Lencana di Dada,” or “For the Badge on the Chest.”
Maintaining the signature yellow as the main colour for the home kit, with only the collar being black, the new edition features a textured material, while the away kit keeps black as the main colour with the Harimau Malaya stripes.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the simple design for the home kit would surely be judged, but carries its own meaning.
“Our previous home kit had a collar and black on the sleeves, now our home jersey looks unique as it is all yellow with a black round collar.
“This is the narrative that is trying to be conveyed, that all the focus on the home jersey is not on the pattern but on the exclusive nature of the FAM logo to convey the message of the players, who are playing for the badge on their chest,” he said during the jersey launch at Football Republic in Sunway Pyramid.
National players Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee, V. Ruventhiran, and Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamed modelled the three new designs of the jersey, including the goalkeeper set.
The new kits will make their debut during the Tier 1 international matches against Cambodia and Maldives on December 9 and 14, followed by the AFF Cup from December 20 to January 16, 2023.
“Hopefully with this new jersey, it will uplift the spirit of our respective national teams.
“I would like to thank Nike for remaining loyal to FAM and our national teams for the last 15 years. This edition will be of high value as it will be featured at the 2023 Asian Cup,” Hamidin added.
Meanwhile, Nike Southeast Asia and India marketing director Chris Madsen said the firm was pleased to continue its partnership with FAM and Harimau Malaya for its ninth edition of Nike jerseys since 2007.
“If you look back, the first Nike jersey for the Malaysian national team was used during the 2007 Asian Cup and for the ninth edition, it will once again be special because it will be worn by the team at the Asian Cup in Qatar.
“For this edition, we maintained the use of both yellow and black as they are the symbolic colours of Harimau Malaya, but they are not the usual yellow and black but the colour of the soul of the Harimau Malaya warriors,” he said.
