KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian football fans will have the opportunity to see for themselves the world’s oldest and most famous national knockout tournament trophy – the Emirates FA Cup – when it is flown to Malaysia for the first time on January 25.
The historic trophy will be on display on January 25 from 10am to 11.30am and 1pm to 9pm at the ground floor of Central i-City, Shah Alam.
Besides Malaysia, the trophy will also be flown to Sydney, Australia (January 23), Singapore (January 26), and Seoul, South Korea (January 28).
FA of England commercial director Navin Singh said that he is excited to work with Astro, as the local broadcasting partner, to bring the famous trophy to Malaysia as part of its Asia-Pacific Trophy Tour.
“We hope that by bringing the trophy to Kuala Lumpur, we can attract more spectators to witness the extraordinary drama and action of FA Cup football and show why it is the greatest national knockout competition in the world,” he said in a statement today.
The Emirates FA Cup is the oldest national cup competition in the world and more than 700 clubs and 10,000 players representing the entire club system in English football compete in a knockout format to determine a champion.
Liverpool won the trophy last year, while Arsenal are the top winners in the competition’s history with 14 cups. – Bernama, January 19, 2023
