KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan FC’s newest import player Christian Rontini has received a death threat even before taking the pitch for the club for the 2023 season.

In a post by Kelantan FC owner Norizam Tukiman on Facebook, he shared a screenshot of an account that had sent the threat to Rontini on Instagram.

“You should know if you don’t play well in Kelantan, you will die,” the threat read.

Norizam was shocked by the intimidation ahead of the Super League that kicks off on February 24.

“I am shocked and disappointed by the actions of Kelantan fans who sent death threats to the team’s new player Rontini.

“Supposedly as wise fans, we must welcome the presence of new players, moreover Rontini is an import player that must be shown friendly and good Malaysian culture, even more Kelantan culture that is intertwined as long as undisturbed,” he said.

Italy-born Philippine national footballer Rontini joins Kelantan for the 2023 season after spending the previous year with Penang FC.

“I am once again disappointed with the fans’ threatening statements and have asked the management to lodge a report to the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission.

“Threats are not a joke!” Norizam added.

He also said the threats had placed unnecessary pressure and worry on the 23-year-old player.

“There is still much to do, do something worthwhile.

“Don’t threaten the player. Pity him (for making him) stressed and worried,” he said.
