KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) kicked-off their 2023 Super League season with a bang after winning their eighth Sumbangsih Cup, defeating Terengganu FC 2-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor today.

The Southern Tigers broke the deadlock within five minutes when Spaniard Juan Muniz netted with a header.

JDT dominated the first half as Terengganu struggled to get the ball into their attacking half due to intense opposition pressure.

Winger Arif Aiman Hanapi came close to doubling the score for JDT when the 20-year-old superbly dribbled past several defenders in the box, but his effort was denied by Terengganu keeper Mohd Suhaimi Husin.

JDT head coach Esteban Solari’s men came out strong in the second-half, with last season’s top scorer Bergson da Silva tapping in a cross by Arif Aiman in the 56th minute to double the advantage, which the Southern Tigers eventually held on to for the win. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
