KUALA LUMPUR – Not happy with the quality of the pitches, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) has decreed that all Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) football fields be upgraded.

In an official tweet, the club said that TMJ was not satisfied with the current quality of the pitches.

The owner of JDT has previously been vocal about the quality of football pitches in Malaysia in general.

He had questioned the decision of certain clubs to reject the Youth and Sports Ministry’s offer to upgrade football pitches in the country.

Earlier, TMJ pledged RM1.5 million to upgrade the pitch at Bukit Jalil National Stadium with the same Zeon Zoysia grass pitch used at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.

It is understood that upgrading works could involve possible re-turfing and will be carried out at the end of the season.

“It will start with the JDT Training Centre and Sultan Ibrahim Stadium to be ready for the 2024 season, “ the club said on Twitter.

The nine-time Super League champions are currently leading the standings with nine wins from nine matches and hold a five-point lead over their rivals Selangor FC.

The defending champions are on the hunt to top its 10th consecutive league. – The Vibes, 3 May, 2023
