KOTA KINABALU - The Sabah Football Club (SAFA) has named Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as acting president as the state football body gears up for Malaysian league season next year.
Bung’s appointment completes the state football body restructuring after Sabah undergo a political shift in the recent Sabah election.
The position was held by Warisan vice president Datuk Peter Anthony who vacated the seat after his party lost in the state poll on Sept 26.
SAFA Deputy President Datuk Abdul Rahman Zakaria announced Bung’s appointment today, saying the Sabah number two is a passionate football enthusiast.
He said Bung also saw the Felcra Football Club enter the Malaysia FAM Cup when he was chairman of Felcra.
“Bung’s appointment has been unanimously decided by SAFA supreme council member. We have met with the Kinabatangan MP over this and he has agreed to accept the position.
“We believe with his leadership, the Sabah football scene will be much more exciting this year. We will be holding the association’s Annual General Meeting to confirm Bung latest by our Annual General Meeting early next year,” he said during a press conference today.
On November 12, SAFA also decided to name local Sabah businessman Datuk Verdon Bahanda as the Sabah Football Club (Sabah Rhinos) as Chief Executive Officer.
Bahanda owns 70% of the Sabah FC while SAFA owns 30% of the state football team.
