A FAMILY of five - husband, wife, father-in-law and their two children were found dead and buried in the rear portion of their house in Paoman Subdistrict, Indramayu District, West Java, on Monday.

According to reports in Kompas.Com, the victims were identified as H Sahroni, 75; Budi, 45; Euis, 40; and two children aged six and 18-months.

A check at the location yesterday found that the house was now cordoned off by police and the condition of the two-storey house also appeared unkempt and dusty with the lower part painted pink while the upper floor was cream.

The front of the house was filled with thick, unkempt bushes, making house number 52 look vacant.

Next to the house was also a building believed to be a warehouse.

All five bodies were buried in the same hole, forming a mound of earth.

News of the horrific incident had gone viral, prompting many to visit the scene.

A resident known as Sukarta said that his neighbor was nowhere to be seen and he became suspicious when he got a foul smell on Sunday.

However, at that time, he brushed it off, thinking it was from a dead rat.

But last Monday, the stench became stronger and he could smell it from his motorcycle workshop located across the victim's house.

After learning of the strong smell, the victim's other family members broke down the door before alerting the police.

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Indramayu Police, AKP Tarno, said when officers examined the house, a mound was found in the back. After digging it up, they discovered the five bodies consisting of three adults and two children.

It is estimated that the victims had died a few days before being found. The exact results of the cause of death are pending the autopsy results," said Tarno. - September 3, 2025
