SAO PAULO – Brazil registered 1,205 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking its total fatalities to 532,893, said the Health Ministry yesterday.
As many as 48,504 new infections were detected, driving up the national caseload to 19,069,003, reported the Xinhua news agency, quoting the ministry.
Brazil has the world’s second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the US and India.
The South American country, which is experiencing a fresh wave of infections that is seeing its hospitals overwhelmed, has a mortality rate of 253 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, said the ministry.
As of yesterday, 112.9 million of its population have received at least one vaccine dose, and over 29.9 million are fully immunised. – Bernama, July 11, 2021
