PUTRAJAYA – Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) will introduce a new financing scheme for individuals laid off due to the Covid-19 pandemic and who intend to start a business, said chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said the initiative, with an allocation of RM50 million, will see a minimum loan of RM50,000 given.

The scheme, which is different from the Bumiputera Relief Financing initiative that focuses on companies affected by the pandemic, will see its launch soon, Noh told reporters here today after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PUNB and seven agencies under the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.

The agencies are National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd, Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd, UDA Holdings Bhd, Perbadanan Nasional Bhd, National Entrepreneurship Institute and SME Corporation Malaysia.

Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the MoU aims to create a conducive business ecosystem to generate a more competitive Bumiputera economy.

“Financing factors, including a lack of funding, are among the main reasons for the lack of participation of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the economy.

“I am confident this synergy (through the MoU) can create 100 millionaires every year among small and medium enterprises.” – Bernama, March 2, 2021
