KUALA LUMPUR – Lembaga Tabung Haji promises to cooperate with the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) after six members were appointed yesterday.
Group managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin said in a statement that TH will be giving its full cooperation to ensure a smooth running of the RCI process.
“TH is confident that the findings and views from RCI members will help improve its governance and management in the future”.
Yesterday, six RCI members were appointed to look into the controversy surrounding Tabung Haji’s management and operational issues from 2014 to 2020.
Fund chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said the RCI will reinforce TH’s standing as a national and international Islamic financial institute that has served with an excellent track record since 1963.
“Alhamdulillah, with the efforts of all parties, TH has continued to achieve some progress in recent times and is now on a good and strong financial and operational track.
“The total deposit savings guaranteed by the government has reached RM83.3 billion as at December 31.
“This amount is the highest in the history of TH, despite the challenging economic and market conditions due to the Covid-19 outbreak over the past two years.”
Yesterday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had given consent to establish a RCI to look into TH’s management and operational issues from 2014 to 2020.
The government then appointed six members to the committee, which will be led by former chief justice Tun Mohamed Raus Sharif. – The Vibes, January 20, 2022
