KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has resigned as group CEO of AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) effective today.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing, it is noted that his departure is “due to other commitments”.

Meanwhile, AirAsia X has yet to announce a replacement for Fernandes.

Previously, the 58-year-old businessman was acting group CEO and a non-independent non-executive director on July 8.

AAX later amended its bourse filing on October 14 that Fernandes was redesignated as a non-independent executive director.

The Edge reported that his resignation came amid AAX’s formulation of a proposal to regularise its Practice Note 17 (PN17) condition.

In February, Fernandes told Nikkei Asia that the PN17 status “is irrelevant and meaningless to liquidity and business as it is no more than accounting”. – The Vibes, October 31, 2022
