PM calls for schools to be safe, comfortable, and hopeful places for success
“I saw firsthand the dedication of teachers who are tirelessly working to build the future of our people and nation,” Anwar says – February 17, 2025

AS the 2025/2026 school year begins, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the importance of making schools safe, comfortable, and filled with hope, stressing that education is the gateway to success.

In a Facebook post today, Anwar shared his surprise visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Baru, where he observed the first day of school and took the opportunity to witness the dedication and resilience of educators who are shaping the future of the nation.

“At Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Baru, I personally observed the atmosphere on the first day of school and saw firsthand the dedication of teachers who are tirelessly working to build the future of our people and nation," Anwar wrote.

"During this brief surprise visit, I took the time to listen, because education is not just about textbooks and exams; it’s about building dreams, seizing opportunities, and shaping hope."

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to wish students returning to school today a successful and fruitful year of learning. He reminded everyone that behind each hope lies a shared responsibility among leaders, educators, and parents to ensure the success of future generations.

Reflecting on his own past experience as a lecturer at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Anwar recalled the significant role teachers play in shaping lives.

He acknowledged that educators do not only impart knowledge but also provide love, compassion, exemplary conduct, and wisdom.

“Even though schools and universities are two different environments, the spirit of dedication and service remains the same,” Anwar stated.

The 2025/2026 school session for Group B, which includes 11 states, began today, while Group A, which consists of Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan, started yesterday.
