IN CONJUNCTION with the 19th ASEAN regional navy chiefs meeting in Penang, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will host for the first time ever - an ASEAN navies city parade showcasing their latest naval frigates.

The ships would be anchored offshore from the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal on the island.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow told a joint press conference with Laksamana Madya Datuk Baharuddin Wan Md Nor, the commander of the RMN western armada that the event will be held at 9am on August 17.

The public can gather at the Esplanade area near the Penang Island City Council headquarters to catch a glimpse of the ships.

This event is held to mark the ASEAN meeting of the top regional navy brass.

Among the navies expected are from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

The event is also held in conjunction with the fourth community outreach programme by the state news bulletin - Bulletin Mutiara.

There would be exhibitions and various community initiatives to mark the occasion, said Chow.

There would also be a marching band performance. - August 7, 2025.
