PETALING JAYA – Imagine, if you will, various nasi kandar sellers coming together under one roof.

Now, imagine no more because this September 23 and 24, right here in the Klang Valley, there will be a “Nasi Kandaq Festival” at Sunway Putra Mall.

According to several social media posts, the event is said to be a collaboration between the famous Facebook pages Nasi Kandar Hunters, Nasi Kandar Transporters and Friedchillies.

While the list of participating vendors has yet to be made public, it is learned that several restaurants from Penang, the land of nasi kandar, will be joining. There will also be one restaurant representing the southern region from Johor Baru.

Not only will the festival feature food, but well-known Penang content creator Jumie TV will also be present.

In a Facebook announcement, Jumie TV said, “God willing, those who come to this event will get to meet all of the ‘achis’, come and have fun.”

Jumie TV is a food reviewer and skit producer that features several characters unique to Penang such as Achi Keriau, Achi Kelumbong and Achi Cina.

They have over 20k followers on Facebook and over 55k followers on TikTok.

This is the first time that a food festival is highlighting nasi kandar specifically in Kuala Lumpur. Friedchillies previously organised various food fests, among them under its Friedchillies Makan Best series which included a Japanese food fest, coffee fest and also a burger fest.

Nasi Kandar Hunters or NKH is a community on Facebook that shares about the various nasi kandar hunting adventures in Malaysia, and sometimes abroad, and this festival is also to mark it hitting 250,000 members. – The Vibes, September 9, 2023
