IT’S that time of the year again where we get to indulge in the fluffy, sweet and creamy flesh of the nation’s beloved fruit – the durian!

Yes, if you are a lover of the majestic ‘King of Fruits’, mid-July would be the season you look forward to the most as supplies come in an abundance.

Even with the country under lockdown, fret not because you can still enjoy your feast from the comfort of your home with Shopee’s Durian e-Fiesta.

Shoppers can now be sure to not miss out on the good mix of assortments such as the popular Musang King, Udang Merah, XO, D101, durian kampung and others. Around 211 durian sellers nationwide are supporting the campaign.

A scam-free purchase

Foodies across the country search for the best selections to satisfy their year-long culinary prowls. But recent news circulating in the trade leave sellers and consumers alike in a thorny situation. It has resulted in growing concern for potential cheating taking place in their transactions.

In partnership with Malaysia’s Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama), the e-commerce platform also aims to provide customers with the needed assurance through the Shopee Guarantee policy. It covers all transactions made on the platform to protect users and their orders at all times.

The Shopee Guarantee policy sees Shopee withholding payment in escrow. Money is released to sellers only when buyers confirm that the goods received are genuine and in good condition.

This setup enables a worry-free shopping experience. Users can go through a return and refund which can be as quick as 15 minutes once approved, and if paid via ShopeePay.

“We thank Fama for including us in their programme and allowing us to support their cause,” said Shopee Malaysia senior marketing manager Kenneth Soh.

“We understand that there have been a lot of durian-related scams on social media. And we are here to assure consumers not to be afraid as all transactions on Shopee are protected by our Shopee Guarantee policy.

“As such, we hope this campaign and partnership with Fama will help quash all your fears and allow you to enjoy your favourite durian with peace of mind,” he added.

Agricultural goods online

Fama deputy director-general (operations) Abdul Rashid Bahri said the collaboration is part of an effort to assist durian farmers to avoid a glut during this peak season.

“Teaming up with Shopee to offer vouchers that can be claimed and used will be of benefit to both sellers and users alike.

Based on previous joint campaigns, he noted that collaboration between Fama and Shopee recorded up to eight times return on investment that has directly benefited the durian farmers and sellers.

“The current economic situation has made online selling a business survival strategy that our entrepreneurs must embrace.

“As such, Fama is always working towards transforming the marketing methods of our entrepreneurs, aligning to the current needs and situations,” added Abdul Rashid.

*The Shopee Durian e-Fiesta campaign will run from tomorrow until July 31 with attractive discount vouchers of up to 50%, RM15 off with a minimum spend of RM60 and RM30 off with a minimum spend of RM100 that are claimable via the eFamaplace microsite.
