ANNA Sueangam-iam has bested 28 other candidates to be crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2022 at the final round of a highly competitive pageant held in Bangkok on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old told the media upon winning the title that she had a simple childhood and upbringing. Her parents were civil servants, who worked as garbage collectors with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
Growing up on the edge of poverty, she played with toys that her parents found in the trash. She was often bullied and teased 'Miss Garbage' by her classmates.
Despite the difficulties and challenges she faced growing up, she pursued further studies, graduating in hotel and tourism management from Kasetsart University.
The new Miss Universe Thailand received the 'Power of Resilience' crown by renowned luxury jeweler Mouawad and prizes including 1 million baht (about RM123,500), a condominium, and a brand-new car.
She will be representing Thailand at the 71st Miss Universe (Miss Universe 2022) pageant. Thailand has only won the Miss Universe title twice before with Apasra Hongsakula in 1965 and Porntip Nakhirunkanok in 1988. – The Vibes, August 2, 2022
