IN the true spirit of multiculturalism, which has been the nation’s cornerstone for years, pupils and teachers at a school in Ipoh joined hands to give their security guard a memorable farewell.

Fondly known as “Uncle Kittu”, the guard had built close bonds with all, especially with the pupils of SK Bandar Baru Putera in Ipoh, who were seen fondly hugging him as they said their goodbyes.

They also gave him parting gifts and ended the ceremony with a group hug.

Uncle Kittu was being transferred to another school.

A video of the ceremony, which was uploaded by a teacher @lindalabu, has won praise and admiration from social media users who asked for details on how the guard became so close to the pupils.

“Where is Uncle Kittu being transferred to? My child did not get a chance to see him as he had a fever and was absent that day. He is really sad and wants to meet Uncle,” asked one parent.

“I felt so fulfilled watching the video. He must have been a very caring and good person,” wrote @jann.

Another person commented: “We who are parents feel extremely heavy-hearted to be losing Uncle Kittu. We pray that he is always healthy and happy at his new place of duty.”

One netizen who is familiar with the school explained that the guard frequently treated the children and was extremely kind-hearted. He also knew the names of the pupils at the school.

“He treats all the children like his own kids. Don’t just say that the children were crying on his last day... I was also in tears. He has been very good-hearted,” wrote Sakila Azis.

“There is no need to narrate anything about him. He is very appreciated and loved. We all (at the school) can understand how well he has served at this place,” explained one user.

Another remarked that there must obviously have been something very special about the man for him to be adored and respected in that manner, as it is not normal for someone of his vocation to be honoured this way by so many people.

“This uncle must have wept when he got home to have been separated from all these people.”

Zulaikhaps summed up the feelings of observers: “I respect this school (management) because it is very rare for a school to have a function to appreciate a security guard, a canteen worker or a cleaner. Big respect.”  – The Vibes, December 2, 2023
