THE Education Ministry officer who banned two Tamil songs at a Tamil language carnival in Kepala Batas has been transferred, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek’s aide Thiyagaraj Sankaranarayanan said.

He said the issue over the banning of the songs “Tamil Valthu” and “Kadavul Valthu” has been investigated and appropriate action has been taken by the ministry.

Thiyagaraj said on Facebook that the errant officer was transferred to another department, adding that there were baseless accusations of the ministry’s inaction.

“We should be aware that any statement related to the issue will affect the ministry’s investigation.

“Let us focus on the national education process and allow space for further investigation,” Thiyagaraj said.

Last month, the Indian community criticised the barring of two Tamil songs at the Tamil language carnival in Penang, which was organised by the Education Ministry.

Banners featuring Tamil literary and philosophical figure Thiruvalluvar were also blocked.

Fadhlina apologised to the Indian community in the Dewan Rakyat over the issue. – The Vibes, December 8, 2023.
