THE federal government respects Sarawak’s decision to halt registration for the Central Database Hub (Padu) in the state until further notice, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“The federal government has taken note of the decision by the Sarawak government to halt Padu registration in the state.
“The state has issued directives to this effect already to the people in the state and the federal government has directed the economy minister to look into this matter.
“The minister is expected to meet state government leaders in the next few days,” he said after breaking fast in Kuching last night.
Fadillah is Petra Jaya MP and senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) – the main component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state ruling coalition.
Fadillah said he does not know the reason state leaders abruptly halted the Padu registration but stressed that this issue will be handled by Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.
On March 22, the Sarawak government announced that it wanted a halt to the ongoing registration in the state for the Padu national exercise.
PBB vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said there is a need for review.
“We in the state cabinet discussed this Padu registration and feel we need to halt it. Why does the federal government want all citizens to bare naked all their personal information on bank accounts, properties, income etc?
“These are personal confidential details that should not be shared and the state government wants a review,” he had said. – The Vibes, March 25, 2024
