RESIDENTS of a sleepy village in Terengganu are living in fear after the carcasses of six cattle were found yesterday – believed to have been killed by a tiger, the New Straits Times reported.
Livestock owner, Abd Muien Shafie, said the cattle were kept in a 2.2-hectare electric-fenced enclosure, adding he has suffered losses of more than RM10,000.
The 41-year-old said he became worried when he only saw two of his cattle in the area, and both appeared frightened. He then patrolled the enclosure and detected a foul odour.
“I returned home and went back to the farm at noon to inspect the area again to search for the missing cattle.
He then lit fireworks in the enclosure and heard tiger growls.
He believed his cattle were killed by a tiger as he found traces of the animal’s footprints and distinctly heard tiger growls.
Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) Terengganu director Loo Kean Seong said traps have been set for the tiger.
He also advised the villagers not to let their livestock roam freely. – April 21, 2024.
