THE son of a menteri besar was among six individuals remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) to assist investigations into false claim documents involving RM600,000.
According to reports in Berita Harian, sources revealed that a senior official from the same menteri besar’s office was also remanded.
The remand order was issued by magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor after the accused were brought to the Kangar court at 8.45am.
“The arrested suspects are between 27 and 37 years old and were remanded to assist in investigations related to the implementation of infrastructure development projects such as repair, maintenance, supplies and services throughout Perlis from 2022.
“The investigation is also believed to involve false claims for work that was not carried out.
“The suspect is believed to be a company owner, contractor and civil servant at the state secretary’s office and the MB’s office,” the source said.
The source said the suspect was arrested between 7am and 8am yesterday in Perlis and the investigation was carried out under Section 18 of the MACC Act.
Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that MACC intelligence division director Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, when contacted, confirmed the arrest. – The Vibes, April 24, 2024
