THE Sarawak government will carry out a complete geological mapping of the state to find more precious minerals after it discovered an estimated RM1.25 trillion worth of gold, rare earth, and other precious metals in 32% of mapped land.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said he had informed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof about the latest state decision.
“I have informed him (Fadillah) to seek funds from Putrajaya to carry out complete geological mapping of Sarawak to explore the potential for more discoveries.
“This matter was discussed during the National Minerals Council meeting chaired by Deputy PM Fadillah in Kuala Lumpur,” Tengah said in a press statement.
On June 18, Tengah announced the discovery of an estimated RM1.25 trillion worth of gold, rare earth, bauxite, and other precious metals.
The State Geological Department had recently concluded a survey covering 32% of the total 12.4 million ha of land in Sarawak and found an abundance of minerals worth a fortune, he said. – July 3, 2024.
