THE pilot project for the National Service Training Programme 3.0 will begin in June and July next year.

Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said two out of the 13 military camps in the country will be involved in the project, reported The Star.

“We expect about 1,000 participants for the project,” he said during question time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Camps will also be segregated according to gender.

“The training module has since been finalised with cooperation from the Defence, Higher Education and Education Ministries,” he said.

Khaled said the programme will be introduced in schools in a pre-National Service Training Programme phase.

“This will involve Form 4 students during their curriculum periods.

“The basic national service training programme would begin with selected students aged 17 and above,” he added.

He said this phase encompasses nationhood modules (30%) and basic military training (70%).

The basic national service training at military camps would begin in April 2026, while national service training in public universities would begin during the 2026/2027 academic intake.

“Participants also have the opportunity to further their training according to their fields of interest,” he said.

Khaled was responding to Zahari Kechik (PN-Jeli) and Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin), who asked about the status of the revised national service programme. – July 10, 2024
