THE three secondary school students who went missing when a river boat capsized two days ago in Lundu, Sarawak were found drowned. 

The body of Alsma Jithil, 14, was found today about 6.30am, while the bodies of Helena Petrus, 17, and Vilkie Wilson, 15, were found yesterday. 

They were all from SMK Senibong Lundu. 

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the bodies were brought to the hospital mortuary. 

Two days ago, a passenger boat capsized while ferrying the three plus 12 other students and two adults from a village to a school in Lundu. 

The incident at Sungai Kayan, Kampung Selampit happened at about 6.30am. 

The other 12 students had been rescued along with the two adults while the three students went missing after being swept away. 

A search-and-rescue mission was launched but the missing trio could not be located. Villagers had also joined the search party. 

Lundu district is located about 100km from Kuching. – August 22, 2024.
