Four dead, six missing after boat capsizes near Belawai beach

FOUR people have been confirmed dead while six others are missing after a boat capsized near Kampung Belawai beach near Sarikei, Sarawak.

Seven others survived in the boat tragedy.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre received a call regarding the case at 2.11 pm and mobilized six members of the Tanjung Manis Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that a fibre boat with 17 people on board had capsized.

“Four victims have been confirmed dead, seven survived and 6 victims are still missing at the time of the incident,” he said in a statement today.

He said that the search operation on the beach was carried out by personnel using a fire rescue boat and was assisted by a boat from the Sarawak Coast Guard.
