BN candidate Syed Hussien, 40, polled a total 27,995 votes against Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, - September 28, 2024

BARISAN Nasional’s (BN) Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has won the Mahkota by-election with a vote majority of 20,648, according to the Election Commission (EC).

BN candidate Syed Hussien, 40, polled a total of 27,995 votes against Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, who managed 7,347 votes in a straight fight.

The counting of votes took place at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail in Kluang.

The EC reported that 53.84 per cent of voters had cast their ballots today.

There are a total of 61,397 voters who are eligible to vote in the Mahkota by-election, including postal and absentee voters.

The Mahkota state by-election was called following the death of its elected representative Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on August 2.

This is the fourth by-election held this year.

The first was the Kuala Kubu Baru by-election in Selangor, followed by Sungai Bakap in Penang, and the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan. - September 28, 2024
