DATUK Ewon Benedick is unfazed by PKR’s rejection of his appointment as Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, saying political disputes are part of any democratic process.

“An election was conducted, and the decision was made through due process. I believe all parties within PH uphold democratic practices,” he told reporters after officiating an event at a Kota Kinabalu mall.

“Like any other election, sometimes petitions are filed, and the Election Commission may need to confirm results.

“What’s important is that the process has been carried out, the decision has been made, and we respect that.”

Benedick’s leadership is being challenged by Sabah PKR leaders, who insist the chairman position should go to their party.

Sabah PKR State Leadership Council secretary Sazalye Donol hinted that the matter is far from over, saying unresolved issues remain.

Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud also weighed in, claiming Benedick’s appointment has not been endorsed by the PH presidential council.

The PH coalition comprises PKR, DAP, Amanah, and Upko.

Benedick, who is also the president of Upko, was elected Sabah PH chairman on December 1, defeating Datuk Seri Christina Liew by just three votes.

He also noted that prolonged internal disputes within PH would harm the coalition’s ability to serve Sabahans.

“I am prepared to carry out the mandate entrusted to me,” he said.

“I want to focus on what is needed by Sabah’s entrepreneurs and the people of Sabah, in line with this mandate.” - January 6, 2025
