THE two late chief ministers of Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and Tan Sri Adenan Satem, have been credited as the ones who had ensured that leadership transitions in Sarawak were carried out seamlessly and peacefully.
Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak president, today said the peaceful manner of leadership change is not easy to achieve.
Speaking at the PBB central Sarawak zone party delegates conference in Sibu town today, he said Taib and Adenan had left this legacy behind before their demise.
"Tun Taib made sure the chief minister post and other key posts in PBB and the state government were passed on to Adenan and his team.
"He made sure there was no struggle for posts.
"Adenan then made sure that he handed over to me the top post peacefully without any leadership tussle before his demise.
"I want to make sure we continue to follow this peaceful leadership change. I am already 74 years old.
"I hope the party can observe a peaceful transition when I have to leave," he said.
Johari said PBB must lead the way in making sure there is no fighting for posts.
He said this is key towards ensuring that the state continues to give priority to socio-economic developments.
PBB is holding its party branch delegates meetings now, to be followed later this year with the central state-level conference. - January 12, 2025
