THE Attorney-General's Chambers has submitted a Notice of Motion seeking permission to appeal to the Federal Court regarding the Court of Appeal's decision on the addendum issue.
In a statement today, the AGC said the notice was submitted yesterday, ensuring all rights provided by law can be fully implemented.
The AGC said its appeal is based on conflicting interpretations of the law between the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
"The Attorney General's Department believes that the steps taken are not only important to ensure justice in this case but also to strengthen the powers of the constitution and law and clarify the interpretation of the law for the benefit of all.
"This move was to ensure that all the rights which are provided by the law are implemented in full," said a statement.
Earlier last month, Datuk Seri Najib Razak had succeeded in obtaining leave from the Court of Appeal in a split 2-1 decision in his appeal relating to his claims of a royal addendum order that would allow him a house arrest.
The appellate court overturned the High Court's dismissal of Najib's application for leave to initiate judicial review over the prison time imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial. – February 5, 2025
