PENANG DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong has played down the fracas where a fellow DAP member Tan Khong Chong berated him by calling him a traitor.

Sim took to social media to describe the incident as a "storm in a teacup," despite other DAP leaders calling for Tan to be subjected to disciplinary action.

Sim said that he knows Tan, a state DAP Youth leader for some time and for him, it was a small incident.

"Let us move on and go forward, together and stronger," Sim said.

The Human Resources Minister was calm when Tan confronted him at the end of a lavish dinner in Penang.

Tan is also an aide to DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is a former Penang Chief Minister.

Others who have issued a statements on the incident include Penang DAP Youth deputy head Vijay Pillay and his committee member Farid Maulud.

Both said collectively that they are disgusted with Tan’s conduct.

The event where Tan ridiculed Sim, calling him a traitor and challenging him, was a state tribute dinner to DAP stalwart Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang at the Han Chiang College.

It was also an occasion to celebrate Lim's 84th birthday, which falls on February 20.

Meanwhile, a state DAP veteran, who preferred not to be named, said that Tan needs to be censured, as Sim was duly elected by the state delegates and subsequently appointed as state DAP chairman.

Sim deserves to be accorded the respect as a party leader.

"Any misgivings with Sim should have been relayed through proper platforms or party channels."

Later, it was learnt that Tan had issued an open apology to Sim and had expressed regret over his actions. – February 17, 2025
