AYER Kuning assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin from Umno, died after he suffered a heart attack at a football match at the City Stadium in Penang.

He was involved in a match between the veterans of a Perak club and the Penang Port Sdn Bhd club - the Pulau Pinang Chief Minister's Football Cup Championship.

He was believed to be shaking hands with other players about 5.20pm when he suddenly collapsed.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene shortly after failed to resuscitate the elected representative and he was rushed to hospital about 5.40pm.

According to police, he was pronounced dead at the Emergency Unit of the Penang Hospital at 6.28pm.

Ishsam, aged 59, was also a former Perak state footballer.

He was elected the Ayer Kuning assemblyman in the 2022 general election, winning the seat in a five-cornered contest with a 2,213 vote majority.

Penang FA chief executive officer Jeffery Chew Gim Eam extended his condolences to the family. - February 22, 2025.
