DAP has called on the relevant authorities to act against those who incite religious or racial hatred.
Its deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo said that stern action must be taken against those who resort to such provocative measures to instigate hatred and sow anger.
This matter was raised in Cabinet last Friday, and a decision was made that firm action must be taken in cases of this nature, said Gobind in a statement.
A statement to this effect was issued by the Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil on the very same day, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
"Police reports have been lodged, and I have been informed that statements have been taken from various individuals. Despite this, we see some repeating themselves, which further compound matters."
The police and Attorney General therefore need to act fast.
"We cannot and must not allow statements which are insulting to religion to remain without proper action.
“Legal provisions exist to deal with situations like these.
“These provisions mean nothing if they are not enforced."
Gobind said that action must be taken to send a strong message that the government will not condone insults to any religion, and that there are consequences. - March 11, 2025.
