PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today officiated the groundbreaking and foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the Madani Mosque on a piece of land owned by Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd (Jakel).
The construction of the Madani Mosque in Kuala Lumpur is expected to be completed within two years, marking another significant milestone in the development of Islamic heritage in the Klang Valley.
Once completed, the mosque will become a prominent feature in the city’s landscape, catering to the growing needs of the local Muslim community.
Designed with a Malaysian cultural concept, the four-storey mosque will have the capacity to accommodate around 2,900 worshippers at any one time, including 592 in the main prayer hall on the first floor.
In addition to prayer spaces, the mosque, which will be built on a 12,142 square foot plot of land, will feature an event hall, offices, and other essential facilities.
The Madani Mosque is expected to ease overcrowding at nearby mosques such as Masjid India and the Surau at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD Dang Wangi), particularly during Friday prayers and festive seasons.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Group Managing Director of Jakel, Datuk Seri Mohamed Faroz Mohamed Jakel, highlighted that the mosque was conceived in line with the late Mohamed Jakel Ahmad’s vision.
“The construction of this mosque is not only intended to benefit the local Muslim community but also to contribute to the overall well-being of society by providing a comfortable and organised place of worship,” he said
The development of the Madani Mosque reflects a long-term commitment to enhancing the infrastructure for spiritual practice in the area, offering a modern yet culturally grounded sanctuary for worshippers.
The site of the new mosque is located at the former Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple on Jalan Masjid India.
On Tuesday, local media reported that a resolution had been reached regarding the temple site.
The temple management has agreed to relocate the place of worship to a new location, following discussions between various parties.
Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), who was also present, confirmed that a new site of 4,000 square feet had been identified for the temple, approximately 50 meters from its original location.
This move is part of a collaborative effort involving the temple's management and the government to ensure the temple's smooth relocation.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur City Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif stated that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would play a key facilitation role in ensuring the transfer of the temple, which is situated on private land, to its new premises is carried out efficiently.
More than 100 police officers were stationed as early as 8am today across multiple areas near the mosque's location.
The police also erected a barricade around the premises, while sniffer dogs conducted security sweeps. - March 27, 2025
