PENANG Development Corporation (PDC) has been urged to adjust and raise its performance level to cope with the imposition of the 24% tariff by the United States.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said PDC as a strategic state agency also needs to secure a strong relationship with the federal government and all relevant stakeholders.

Speaking at the agency's Hari Raya Adil Fitri celebrations, he said Penang aspires to maintain its standing as one of the country's economic hubs and to sustain it.

“To ensure this, PDC needs to be creative and innovative,” said Chow.

He called on PDC to improve the speed in implementing strategic development projects, especially those which can generate spillover economic benefits.

Chow also recorded his appreciation that PDC has successfully completed the construction of foreign workers' quarters and amenities facilities at the Penang Science Park South.

"It is a transformation worth mentioning for PDC."

Chow envisioned that the Science Park South can become an innovation hub for Penang.

PDC is also now venturing into consolidating its hold on constructive industrial estates and on affordable housing. - April 16, 2025.
