DESPITE losing his PKR Setiawangsa division chief's post, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said he was undeterred and would defend his vice-presidency.
He said his stance remained as previously announced and left it to the discretion of party members to assess his performance and contributions throughout his tenure.
"So far, as I have stated, I will defend the position in question.
"God willing, we will stick to that decision," he said.
He said that the party would review the past election process, including the issues that arose, to enable improvements to be made ahead of the next election.
"We will discuss this matter at the Central Leadership Meeting (MPP). In fact, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself has expressed his intention to ensure that this election process runs smoothly and transparently.
"We will evaluate and improve what is necessary before making any official announcement," he said.
Asked whether he would form a partnership with any other candidates who also intend to contest for the party's highest office, Nik Nazmi refused to comment on his political strategy.
Meanwhile, regarding the status of the appeal of the Setiawangsa Branch Chief election decision submitted to the Central Election Committee (JPP), he said that the matter was entirely up to the body involved.
Nik Nazmi lost Setiawangsa to director-actor Datuk Afdlin Shauki.
He registered 563 votes while Afdlin, who joined PKR in 2021, got 631 votes. In 2022, Afdlin lost the contest for the same post to Nik Nazmi. - April 22, 2025
