PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today described Tan Sri Azam Baki's reappointment as Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for another one-year as 'unwelcome'.

"This was an unwelcome extension. The party (PKR) needs to stand for reforms - and we require the support of the rakyat and our members to do this.

"We ask brave and courageous civil servants and personalities to rise to the occasion," the deputy president candidate said on X.

Ysterday, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had granted consent to Azam's reappointment as the nation's top anti-graft officer.

The 62-year-old has held the position since March 9, 2020, succeeding Latheefa Koya, with previous one-year reappointments in May 2023 and May 2023.

The prime minister's daughter did not comment on Azam's previous reappointments.

Izzah has gained strong support to take on Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for the party's number two post in the coming PKR polls.

A majority say the 'Puteri Reformasi' has proven herself and is someone capable of steering PKR to the future. - May 10, 2025
