A 25-TONNE crane crashed, blocking half the road at Jalan Permatang Damar Laut near Kampung Seronok in Bayan Lepas, George Town today.

Assistant Director of the State Fire and Rescue Operations Division, John Sagun Francis said his team rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at about 9.10am.

“The incident is believed to have occurred when the crane skidded from a nearby construction site and overturned, with part of it blocking the road. The incident also caused traffic flow to be affected.

“The crane driver was taken to the hospital for treatment before our team arrived at the scene,” he said.

According to him, work to remove the crane was carried out with the help of two other cranes, before the site was cleaned up. – May 16, 2025
