AN unemployed man suspected of slashing his wife to death in an incident at a house in Bukit Gambir, Tangkak yesterday, has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations.
The remand order against the 33-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Lee Kim Keat, after an application was submitted by an investigating officer from the Tangkak District Police Headquarters (IPD).
The suspect is being remanded from today until next Tuesday to complete investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 435 for mischief by fire.
Earlier, the suspect, who was wearing a purple lockup shirt, appeared calm upon arriving at the court premises at around 8.30am under tight police guard.
However, the suspect suddenly chanted ‘takbir’ and two shahada words loudly while in the court lockup.
The remand application took about 20 minutes before the suspect was taken back for further investigations.
It was earlier reported that the man was believed to have slashed his wife to death at a residence in Bukit Gambir.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly tried to burn down his mother-in-law's house in Lenga, Pagoh, about 40 kilometres from the location of the incident.
However, the suspect only managed to burn several vehicles outside the house.
According to sources, because of the police's quick action, the suspect was successfully arrested at the location. – June 4, 2025
