HUMAN Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong continued lending a helping hand when he helped R. Saundarya realise her dream to become a doctor despite her financial setbacks.

Taking to Facebook, Sim said that Saundarya contacted his service centre last year, saying she urgently needs to pay nearly RM20,000 in tuition fees in a few days to take the final medical semester examination.

The fee was a heavy burden to her family, so the young lady doctor reached out to Sim instead.

Saundarya revealed that her father was a lorry driver and it would be impossible to raise the sum.

Sim decided to help, saying that he adopted Saundarya as a god daughter and pledged to get the funds for her tuition fees.

After five years of struggle and persistence, Saundarya has graduated to become a doctor and would soon start her houseman ship in one of the public hospitals.

Sim attended her graduation ceremony and shared photographs of the joyful occasion.

"Not only did she successfully complete her studies, she also received the outstanding student award and made the Dean's List for three terms."

Sim said that he reminded her that she must always remember the kindness of her parents, and when she put on that honorific white robe, always do everything she can to help those in need.

"Whenever you encounter poor patients, don't forget the days when you studied hard and fed your hunger with bread and Maggie mee. Treat your patients with your heart and skills. Wishing you all the best," said Sim.

"The world needs not only smart doctors, but also doctors with a good heart," he added. - June 23, 2025.
