POLICE has opened investigation papers against two independent preachers, Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong Wai Hung, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

She said the IPs have been referred to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) for instructions and a decision.

“I am informed that the AGC has so far found that there is not sufficient evidence to prove the elements of an offence under any legal provision to charge the two individuals in court.

“Criminal cases, unlike civil cases, are not subject to time limits. Therefore, if there are new developments in the future, further investigation and review of this case can still be carried out,” she said in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat.

She was responding to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked why Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong have not yet been charged despite hundreds of police reports against the duo.

Previously, police arrested Zamri Vinoth on suspicion of disturbing public order through a post he uploaded on Facebook.

Last year, Firdaus Wong claimed to have been summoned by the police to assist investigations into a police report lodged against him. - July 22, 2025
