AUTHORITIES in Penang are believed to have rescued 20 children whose identities remained unverified from a hidden location here.

This comes after a detailed investigation on the possibility of a human trafficking syndicate operating in the state.

State executive councillor Lim Siew Khim, who oversees welfare services, is scheduled to hold a media briefing on the matter soon.

The children were apparently rescued yesterday in a joint - operation with various agencies.

They are presently held in an undisclosed location where they will be cared for while the authorities investigate the matter.

Penang as a choice logistic hub, can be accessed by air, sea and land, hence over the years, it has become a spot for many smuggling activities.

Narcotics trade and human smuggling is said to be among the common illegal activities. - July 28, 2025.
