TWO students from the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) died after falling from a high place in two separate incidents within 24 hours at a condominium in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
The first incident was reported to have occurred at around 6.45am, where a 22-year-old female student was found dead in the back passage of the condominium after she allegedly fell from the 22nd floor.
The victim was confirmed dead by medical officers who arrived at the scene.
The second incident occurred at around 8.30pm, also at the same condominium, involving a 21-year-old male student.
Based on information from the public, the male student involved is believed to have fallen from the highest point in the condominium which has a cafeteria.
These two incidents are also reported to be unrelated, but occurred on the same day involving students from the same university.
Wangsa Maju District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail confirmed the incidents and informed that his party will issue an official statement soon.
It was reported yesterday that a man lodged a police report after suspecting the death of his daughter who fell from the 22nd floor was a result of bullying.
The man, identified as Jeff Ho, in his 50s, said he was informed by his daughter's friend that the friends at her school were suspected of emotionally bullying her.
"There was pressure from her friends because of a disagreement," he said when met by reporters at the Wangsa Maju Police Headquarters.
The businessman said the second of three siblings had also complained about the matter to her older sister and younger brother.
He added that his daughter was also rescued by security guards after she is believed to have tried to jump from her home last week.
TAR UMT has released two statements expressing condolences and said it has extended support to family, friends, and roommates.
It also said the university was conducting an internal review and will provide full cooperation to the authorities.
The university also said it will assist the families of the students affected. - August 21, 2025
