ONGOING unrest and violent riots in various countries should serve as a stark reminder to Malaysians of the importance of preserving national unity among the country’s multi-ethnic population, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Convention of Religious Agencies (Ijtimak Perdana Agensi Agama Seluruh Malaysia, IJPAM) in Iskandar Puteri, Anwar stressed that unity is not only the cornerstone of national peace but also a foundation for long-term economic prosperity.
“The lesson from these riots is clear — unity is not a luxury, it is a necessity for a nation’s survival,” he said.
In a separate but impassioned address, the Prime Minister denounced what he described as the “brazen and inhumane” conduct of the Zionist regime, following a spate of Israeli attacks on six countries — including Qatar, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen — reportedly within just three days.
“One country behaving with such impunity — attacking six others in a matter of days — is evidence of the aggressive and inhumane nature of the Zionist regime,” said Anwar.
He added that these actions were being carried out with “open support from global superpowers”.
The Prime Minister confirmed he will represent Malaysia at the upcoming Arab-Islamic Emergency Summit in Doha, Qatar, scheduled for Monday. The summit, hosted by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, will focus on the deteriorating situation in Gaza and broader regional instability.
“As a result, I will not be able to attend several events scheduled at home this weekend. This summit is of critical importance,” he said.
Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s “unwavering support” for the Palestinian cause and its firm rejection of Zionist aggression.
The six-day IJPAM 2025 programme brought together 2,400 participants from 20 religious agencies nationwide. Organised under the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), the event included seminars, inter-agency sports tournaments, halal industry forums and community outreach activities such as dawn prayers and a fun run. - September 13, 2025
