PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said that Malaysia Day is more than a remembrance of historic alliances between diverse regions and peoples; it stands as a symbol of a nation resolved to remain united in diversity.
In a message posted on Facebook, he reminded Malaysians of the courage of past generations who rejected colonial rule, upheld dignity and forged a nation that is free and sovereign.
“This country was built with the blood, sweat and tears of earlier generations who carried the torch of freedom. The responsibility we carry today is to ensure that torch continues to burn brightly as our guide in facing the challenges of this new era,” he wrote.
Anwar added that the strength of Malaysia lies in citizens who uphold human values, justice and solidarity, supported by credible national institutions and governance.
He said Malaysia’s cultural richness and social diversity should be celebrated as blessings that deepen bonds of brotherhood.
“Let us mark Malaysia Day by reinforcing our commitment and noble aspirations, remaining dedicated to a framework that honours human dignity, rejects injustice, repels division, and makes this country a model of principled leadership in the region and on the international stage,” he said.
He emphasised that Malaysia must continue to be seen as just, prosperous and MADANI, passing down to future generations a nation that is strong and dignified.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysia Day is not merely observed annually on 16 September, but ought to serve as a living reminder of patriotism throughout the year.
He said the spirit of defending national sovereignty and identity must be alive in every citizen, reminding that being Malaysian carries great responsibility.
He urged everyone not to restrict pride in flying the Jalur Gemilang to National Month alone, but to carry such pride in their hearts all year.
“We must defend our country’s sovereignty, our identity, our nation. That is the message I wish to deliver,” he said after appearing on a discussion programme at PICCA\@Arena, Butterworth, during the 2025 Malaysia Day celebrations.
Fahmi invited the public to join festivities at the convention centre, which feature food trucks, heritage exhibits and night‑time fireworks showing, among other activities designed to unify and celebrate every corner of Malaysia.
