A TRADER at a local supermarket in Port Dickson has reportedly lost RM780 after being deceived by a man and woman who used a fake online payment receipt to take goods without making an actual transaction.
The victim, who later shared the incident on social media, said the deception occurred on Monday when the pair arrived at the store and selected several items.
“They purchased six packets of Nescafé and seven packets of Milo, totalling RM780,” the trader wrote. “At first, they said they wanted to pay using the QR code, but later asked if a bank transfer was possible instead. I agreed since the company’s account number was displayed at the counter.”
The suspects then pretended to complete the transfer and showed what appeared to be a successful transaction receipt before quickly leaving the premises.
The trader admitted that they did not verify the payment immediately — an oversight only discovered after discussing the matter with their employer.
“When we checked the account, there was no credit transaction — just a ‘request for money’ notification. That’s when I realised I had been scammed,” the trader said.
Uncertain of the scammers’ motive beyond theft, the trader urged others to be cautious and report any similar encounters.
“I don’t know what their true intent was, but I hope others who come across them will stay alert,” they added.
A police report has been lodged, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing the suspects at the supermarket has been shared on social media in hopes of identifying the culprits. - September 17, 2025
