PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has acknowledged that while the newly unveiled United States peace framework for Gaza is far from perfect, the immediate priority must be to halt the bloodshed and deliver aid to the Palestinian people.
Speaking after a visit to the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC), Anwar said, “The peace plan presented by the United States is not perfect — in fact, we do not agree with much of it. However, our priority now is to save Palestinian lives.”
He stressed that continued debate would serve little purpose while “tens of thousands have already perished in Gaza,” adding that the real responsibility lies in “ending Zionist atrocities, ensuring food and water reach the people, and keeping hope alive for those who still endure.”
Anwar confirmed he will present the peace plan — unveiled earlier this week by US President Donald Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — to the Malaysian Cabinet for deliberation.
The plan includes a ceasefire, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a neutral technocratic body to govern Gaza.
“We do not believe this framework meets Malaysia’s aspirations, particularly with regard to justice for the Palestinian people,” said Anwar. “But it is a starting point. It has meaning — namely, to end violence and occupation, and to ensure that humanitarian aid is urgently delivered.”
He added that support from Arab and Muslim nations for the initiative does not imply full agreement with its terms, but rather reflects a shared determination to end bloodshed, prevent further displacement, and give Gazans a chance to return to their homeland.
Anwar also voiced strong support for the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which includes 34 Malaysians among its activists from 45 countries, calling it a powerful humanitarian mission. “The conflict, tyranny, massacre, killing, oppression and destruction in Gaza have opened the world’s eyes to the meaning of humanitarian justice,” he said.
Rejecting claims that younger generations are disengaged from the Palestinian cause, Anwar pointed to the high participation of youth in rallies and humanitarian efforts. “Their involvement shows they are aware and deeply concerned about what is happening in Gaza.” - October 4, 2025
