HOUSING and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has directed PLANMalaysia, the Town and Country Planning Department, to conduct a detailed study of resolutions presented at the recent Urban Renewal Convention, with a view to strengthening the Urban Renewal Bill (RUU PSB).
The study will consider whether proposals put forward — including those by UMNO — are feasible and serve the public interest. Nga indicated that if found practical, the suggestions may inform future amendments to the bill.
“As a people-centric government, the ministry practises the principles of open heart, open mind and open door,” he said. “I welcome all constructive feedback, as it will be considered when drafting any act or legislation. The aim of RUU PSB is to help the people, particularly residents of dilapidated and rundown flats.”
Nga was speaking to reporters following the Sumbangan Kasih MADANI Deepavali programme, where 625 secondary school students from the Buntong constituency each received RM400, amounting to RM250,000 in total aid.
When asked about the timing of the Urban Renewal Bill’s second reading in the Dewan Rakyat, Nga confirmed it would take place after the tabling of Budget 2026.
The Urban Renewal Convention, organised by UMNO, brought together a range of stakeholders to deliberate on legal, socio-economic and community welfare dimensions of urban redevelopment.
