THE Dewan Rakyat is set to deliberate a range of pressing issues today, including the naturalisation of foreign athletes, the extension of social security coverage for non-traditional workers, and strategies to boost Malaysia’s cocoa industry.
According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s official website, Zakri Hassan (PN-Kangar) will question the Home Minister on the number of footballers granted Malaysian nationality since 2018 and the criteria used by the government or the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to approve their naturalisation.
Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) is expected to press the Human Resources Ministry on its plans to introduce 24-hour social protection for all categories of workers — including shift workers, part-timers, and gig economy earners — to address the evolving nature of employment.
Meanwhile, Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PN-Dungun) will raise a query to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, seeking clarification on measures to ensure that government and private-sector-sponsored official functions adhere to Service Circular 3/2003, particularly the directive prohibiting the serving of alcoholic beverages.
Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) is scheduled to ask the Plantation and Commodities Minister about efforts to revitalise the national cocoa sector and develop Sarawak as a leading hub for cocoa production.
The session will also include the second reading of several legislative proposals, including the Private Agencies (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Urban Renewal Bill 2025, as Parliament continues its legislative calendar for the final quarter of the year. - October 9, 2025
