FORMER Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has been urged to provide a full explanation regarding the contentious land acquisition gazettement related to the Kampung Sungai Baru development project, which was approved under his watch.

Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman, Advisory Council member of the Kampung Baru Development Corporation and PKR Titiwangsa branch chief, criticised the former minister for approving the gazettement under Sections 4 and 8 of the Land Acquisition Act during his tenure.

“Annuar needs to clarify how the gazettement was approved during his time in office, especially as his successor, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, has questioned the appropriateness of the rapid approval process,” Syed Badli Shah said in a statement on Saturday.

He further called on Annuar to “step forward with a full explanation and demonstrate responsibility towards the affected residents.”

The issue surfaced after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Federal Territories, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, revealed that the land acquisition process for Kampung Sungai Baru under the 1960 Land Acquisition Act was hastily carried out within a mere three days in 2021.

In response, Annuar proposed two options on Facebook for Dr Zaliha to clarify the matter in Parliament: either by repeating her statement via an audio broadcast platform next week or by addressing the issue in a post-Cabinet press conference scheduled for Wednesday.

Syed Badli Shah dismissed Annuar’s challenge as a waste of time and a diversion tactic, stressing that the land acquisition gazettement was based on official facts and records from the ministry during Annuar’s ministerial period.

“Annuar should have explained this long ago instead of remaining silent like a coward hiding behind antagonistic figures who blame the Madani Government,” he said.

The call for accountability highlights growing tensions over the handling of the Kampung Sungai Baru land acquisition, which has sparked dissatisfaction among affected residents and political figures alike. - October11, 2025
