A 16-YEAR-OLD female student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Utama 4 in Petaling Jaya died after she was allegedly stabbed by a male student today.

The incident occurred at around 9.30am where the suspect, a male Form 2 student, reportedly armed with a knife attacked her near the toilets.

Initial information revealed that the 14-year-old suspect is believed to have attacked and stabbed the Form Four victim during school hours.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said the boy had been arrested.

“The victim died at the scene. The stabbing occurred right outside a classroom,” he told reporters.

So far, the exact motive for the attack is not clear, and the school is reported to be fully cooperating with the police.

Police stressed that all evidence will be carefully reviewed, including the possibility of witnesses or recordings indicating the incident.

An autopsy on the victim's body will also be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

In a new development, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will hold a special press conference this evening on the incident.

The press briefing, led by Director-General of Education Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, is scheduled for 5pm at the ministry in Putrajaya.

The police confirmed that a male student has been detained in connection with the incident and due to the suspect’s age, his identity will not be disclosed.

The incident has shocked the nation and prompted calls for a thorough review of safety protocols in schools.

The Ministry’s press briefing is expected to provide further clarification on the circumstances surrounding the attack and any immediate measures to prevent similar tragedies. – October 14, 2025
